Welcome to the homepage of Lyzahro Schnauzers. Here you will find all the information, news and updates from the Kennel, along with show results and photographs of our handling team. We hope you enjoy looking around, and getting to know us a little better!

Lyzahro is the only kennel in Wales to champion white miniature schnauzers, and are having an impact on the changing face of the UK show scene.

Lydia has been involved with dogs since the age of 10, originally starting out as a handler for the Cavalier Kennel Droleus. Her first "proper" dog was a blenheim Cavalier called Giina (Droleus Thats M'Girl), who taught her everything she knew! Lydia started handling Giina in veteran classes and the pair of them took the Cavalier world by storm, winning numerous Best Veteran in Show's, Best of Breed's and several placings at Crufts. Giina sadly passed away in 2006, aged 13. Giina was a delight to show, and always drew admiring looks and compliments from people around the ring.

She moved on to a young Cavalier puppy, a tri colour called MidNite (Droleus Thats M'MidNite Girl), and started Junior Handling, competing several times in the Semi-Finals at Richmond Championship Show. Midnite passed away peacefully in 2013, aged 12.

She handled for Droleus Cavaliers for nearly 8 years, and was lucky to show a variety of other breeds during this time.

Lydia was one of the first finalists in the Kennel Club's Grooming Competition, and was a finalist again for the next four years, competing with MidNite's brother, Droleus Thats M'Romeeo ShCM.

In 2006 she took a break from dogs and concentrated on a physiotherapy degree.

In her spare time Lydia was an international martial artist, and represented Wales for several years in Kata.

In 2012 she returned to the dog world with Treharris and District Canine Society as a committee member, and in 2013 began handling for Das Erbe Giant Schnauzers. In the summer of 2013 she set up Lyzahro Schnauzers, and bought in her first Miniature Schnauzer, to join her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Romanii.

In the autumn of 2013 she took another, much shorter, break from handling due to major spinal surgery to remove a tumour from the lower part of her spine. Lydia and her family were told that there was a significant possibility that she would not walk again, and even if she did, it would be unlikely that she would not be able to show the dogs due to the stresses it would place on her back.

However Lydia and Huzzah had other ideas, and worked together to get Lydia back on her feet in record time, and the two began showing again in January 2014. Unfortunately Lydia still suffers with recurrent back problems, and spends the majority of the time resting. Showing is her greatest passion, but the toll this takes, especially with the Giants, can be enormous. It is a true testament to her love for the breeds that she is involved with, that she keeps on going, sometimes attending the same show on two different days.

Alongside Huzzah and Hope, she was also campaigning "Kaegen" (Debutante Erhenberg Vom Schloss Mit Das Erbe) in the UK and the pair started as they mean to go on, winning Best Puppy in Show on their first outing at Pontypridd and District Canine Society Open Show.

In 2015 she also began showing Kendra (Ch Dasval Valeria Messelina), another of Das Erbe's Giant Schnauzers, and in their second show together they also won Best Puppy in Show at Llynfi Valley Canine Society Open Show. This was soon followed by their second Best Puppy in Show at Tredegar Limit Show.

Lydia also judges Junior and Adult Handling, and is well respected as one of the top junior handlers of the 2000's. She has qualified for the Adult Handling Finals twice and continues to compete in the discipline regularly with both her minis and Giants.

In 2014 she stepped down from the committee at Treharris and settled into a less public role as a guest trainer for the club.

In 2015 she resumed a role on the committee, but in a less high profile manner, and currently attends training once every two weeks.

Lydia is available every other Monday night to help train puppies and older dogs for the show ring or to help with socialising.

Lydia is also a keen rider, and has spent many years working with high quality hunt horses, as well as a trek leader for a local riding centre. She enjoys getting out on horses from her old yard as often as she can. She has often wished for a horse of her own, and has a soft spot for Freisians, thoroughbreds and Welsh Cobs.

Lydia and the dogs live with her husband Austin, who, having grown up with a labrador called Barney, was used to having dogs around the house, but had never experienced Beards, or show dogs before. He has been fully into the show world, and doesn't bat an eyelid when the dogs are sent out for walks in coats and boots!

While Lydia continues to battle against recurrent problems as a result of her surgery, she is still to be found at ringside with her boys and Kaegen nearly every weekend. If you're looking for her.....follow the sound of schnauzer screaming (and tell her to sit down, she's probably overdoing it again)!

Huzzah and the rest of the team are house dogs, but they live happy lives outside as well as on our sofas. They are lively, energetic and over exuberant dogs, who love nothing more than racing about, getting filthy and misbehaving. Zeeva especially embodies this philosophy, and it is not often we can actually boast that she is clean.

They conform to their respective breed standards and are happy, healthy dogs.

They are fully socialised with people and other animals, although they have been known to guard the garden vocally against the intrusion of butterflies. They can be boisterous in their greetings, to both humans and other animals, but are gentle and loving.

Please note, our dogs are not available for breeding with mixed breed dogs or with any other breed other than schnauzers. We at Lyzahro are flattered by the interest we have received, but we will not contribute to the alarming trend in "designer dogs", and will not be cajoled, persuaded or talked into breeding indiscriminately with other dogs.

The Lighter Side of Lyzahro.

Dog showing, while meant to be a hobby, is something that we all inevitably end up taking far too seriously. We spend a lot of time, money and effort doing what we do, and our judgement and tempers can get slightly warped. We know that there is mass public scrutiny on our little world of dogs, which usually becomes highly evident around Crufts, and that there is always negative press about the way "show people" supposedly treat their animals.

With this in mind, we would like to invite you to see the lighter side of Lyzahro and the dog world, by joining us on our blog and our facebook page.

Our facebook page will be featuring a series of "Lyzharo Live" videos, aimed at giving people an insight into what really goes on behind the scenes. The antics, the many different poses of Huzzah, how stinking Zeeva really is - the REAL Lyzahro team, in all their ungroomed, noisy glory.

Our blog is a collection of letters, written by Lydia to the Beards, encompassing all their adventures, their quirks, and what life is really like living with schnauzers. These letters are known as "Letters From Lyzahro" and we hope they bring a little giggle and some reality to it all.

Join the family on social media to keep up to date with our antics!
